4th of July

What a treat to spend the 4th of July in Washington DC! We started our day watching the National Parade along Constitution Avenue.
I decided to sneak a self portrait after getting out of the Metro station. Mom and the kids were buying snacks from a street vendor.
At the parade - Uncle Sam!
Gianna admiring the cool balloons on top of daddy's shoulders. Gemma and Spencer were already sitting on a shady curb-side with some friends who arrived an hour earlier!
When I think of the 4th of July - Strawberry Shortcake always comes to mind!
Here's a float with Ben Franklin. Abraham Lincoln was waving to the crowds on the other side of the float.

After spending over 2 hours watching the parade in over 90' heat (fortunately the humidity was low!), we walked over to the Old Post Office and ate lunch at the food court and enjoyed some live music. By 3:30, Gianna was ready to turn into a pumpkin, so we came home for a nap.

By 7pm we were out the door again - this time for a picnic and fireworks!
We went to the Air Force Memorial (you can see it in the photo).

We had an unobstructed view of the Washington Monument. Just beautiful! Since we had plenty of time to wait, the girls and I walked over to one of the many ice cream trucks to buy some cool treats. It was so much fun!

Bamma, Gemma, Spencer and Bozo. Just waiting for it to get a little darker!

Gianna and daddy clowning around. I didn't get too many photos of Gianna because she wouldn't sit still! I had to take what I could get!

Finally - the show started and she stopped moving! : )
My photo doesn't do it justice - but it was so awesome to watch the fireworks with such an amazing background. We could see fireworks from all of the other areas along the horizon - so cool! I hope this is a night the kids don't forget!
